Here we’ve gathered all kinds of trivia, from interesting information on her and her childhood, to completely random facts you probably didn’t know already. All information is collected from interviews, Rose’s twitter and other social media accounts.

  • Rose is 5’4″ (162cm) tall, and her measurments are: 34-25-34.
  • She scored her first acting gig as basically a toddler (3 yo) in “The Piano” in 1991.
  • She is proud of her roots as a New Zealander. Still thinks of herself “very strongly as a New Zealander.”
  • She likes thrift shopping. One thing she likes most about living in the City of Angels is the abundance of thrift stores.
  • Coming from a creative and artsy family, McIver studied ballet until the age of thirteen. This was very useful when she did “Petals on the wind”, which demanded a couple of dancing scenes.
  • Rose has a ritual she does before filming a scene. She shake her arms out to make sure she have tangible energy!
  • If she could revive any day of her life, Rose says she would like to relive her last day of highschool. “It was such an exciting and profound day”
  • Peter Jackson is a fan. Lovely Bones producer Peter Jackson — yes, the same Peter Jackson who helmed all Lord of the Rings films, as well as The Hobbit — is a big fan of the iZombie star. “Rosie is surprising as an actress,” Peter told the New Zealand Herald back in 2010. “As funny and light-hearted as she is in person, she can summon real depth and strength to a performance as an actor. She’s able to bring true grit to a character and there aren’t many young actresses out there who can do that.”
  • Rose is a night person more than a morning person. During an #AskRose on twitter, she said: I love good long sleeps!
  • Says she would always rather play the more interesting, surprising and complex character be it hero or villain.
  • When asked why she became an actress, Rose replied it’s something she have always explored, even as a kid. As long as great opportunities come along, she’s very happy to be an actress.
  • Her Xmas present list at age 3 had the following wishes: Lipstic (translate: lipstick), piffm (perfume), Dolsclosh (dolls’ clothes), Hroos (??) and Golre (Jewelry). She posted a photo on twitter here.
  • Rose is an absolute wimp when it comes to horrow movies! She still agree to become a judge in the Single Scares Film Contest by Fun Size Horror in 2016 though.
  • In 1996, Rose visited South Africa with her family. Her father is from the country, and her mother is from Zimbabwe.
  • Eventhough she now lives in the States, Rose still hang out with her friends from New zealand a lot. Most of them are actors as well! Some of her closest friends are Fleur Saville, Olivia Tennet and Madeleine Sami.
  • She’s got a strong stomach. On the set of iZombie the brains are made of coconut agar-agar bathed in corn syrup. That just doesn’t sound pleasant to begin with.
  • Is a good friend with the popular photographer Tyler Shields. He has photographed Rose many times throughout her career.
  • Rose is very close to her family. During her vacation after finishing up iZombie season 2, Rose was visited by her brother, sister in law, niese and nephew and parents, for a trip she called #McIversDoLA. The visited the natural history musem and Disneyland, among other things.
  • Rose was in an episode of Xena. Despite being only eleven at the time, she went on to win a TV Guide NZ Television award for her performance in the episode. She played Daphne, a young body whose body houses Xena’s soul. Rose had to play the two characters intercahngeably as Xena takes over the girl’s body a couple of times, and she absolutely nailed both parts.
  • Rose’s favorite designer is her, in her words, “home girl” Juliette Hogan. Hogan has designed many of Rose’s red carpet dresses, and the two are close friends.
  • On March 20 2016, Rose participated in the marathon to donate money to CALICO. She ran it in 4 hours and 34 minutes.
  • Rose is a huge fan of both the UK and US’ “The Office”. The british one is her favorite TV show of all time.
  • “The Shivers” is one of Rose’s all time favorites.
  • Eventhough her dream is to become well known in the business, Rose won’t just take any role that falls in her lap. She has a system of questions she always ask to help decide if she should accept the part. 1) Is it something she has done before, or is it something that allows her to experience a new context, tone and relationship? 2) Is it a story worth telling and a character with a reason to exists?
  • In 2015, she was in the music video “Demon Days” by Wild Wild Horses. It was also a short film, where they put together a few of the band’s songs. The film was directed by Rose’s best friend and co-star, Jennifer Morrison.
  • Rose says that if she could play any other fairytale character other than Tinkerbell, she would like to play The Little Mermaid.
  • Rose describes herself as a huge nerd!
  • Rose has a tattoo – a dot on her palm, but you wouldn’t be able to see it.
  • When asked if she would ever become a ginger, she said she has already been one! Rose loves redheads.
  • In her free time, Rose usually reads, runs, attend dinner parties or travel.
  • Her first name is actually Frances, Rose is her middle name.
  • Rose says her lucky number is the number 10!
  • Rose’s idol is Miranda Harcourt, an acting coach from New Zealand.
  • If a zombie apocalypse were to happen, Rose says she would survive by wearing a helmet and “hide dem brains”.
  • When she was a teenager, Rose was a big fan of Ricky Gervais
  • Rose says that the one thing she would do if trapped inside a mall all night, would be to eat all the candy.
  • Rose is close friends with actresses Jennifer Morrison and Karen Gillan. The trio have done several short films together, including “Coward” and “Mattresside”.
  • During the summer of 2017, she teamed up with Emirates for a promotional project she called “Roam the world with Rose”. She visited Barcelona, Paris, Rome and Prague.
  • After taking on a brain of a hockey player for the 4th season of iZombie Rose became a Canucks fan
  • Was on a live show with Feist in October 2017, and said it was one of the best live shows she has been on
  • Rose is a big lover of beaches, but says she has always been careful with the sun because of NZ’s hole in the ozone layer. She grew up wearing sunscreen, which made it easy for her to avoid getting a tan for iZombie
  • Rose has starred in two Disney Channel movies – Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board and Eddie’s Million Dollar Cook-Off
  • Was still in school when she had her breakthrough in the 2009 film “The Lovely Bones”. She actually had to hurry back for exams the week after the promotion tour!
  • In 2015, Rose did a photoshoot and interview for Interview Magazine to promote iZombie. The interview was done by actress Saoirse Ronan, her “The Lovely Bones” co-star and close friend!
  • She grew up going to surf lifesaving lessons – in the part where she grew up in New Zealand, you have to do that as a part of your school education because it is assumed you’re going to spend a lot of time in the water.
  • Her brother is an actor, and her Dad’s a photographer and mother’s a ceramicist. So she comes from an artistic background!
  • She still talks to her “The Lovely Bones” co-star Soairse Ronan about once a week
  • Rose used to sing to Saoirse all the time when they were filming and promoting The Lovely Bones – including songs by Sinead O’Connor.
  • Most of Rose’s characters are very likeable – but she did play a nasty, manipulative character in the New Zealand television show Rude Awakenings! Her character was named Constance Short.
  • Rose was certain she would never get the role in The Lovely Bones, and turned up for the auditon in track pants and a big teddy bear T-Shirt. It ended up working in her favour, as that was exactly the type of character Lindsey was!
  • Her first grown up role was as Maybelle in Predicament. She recalls her part in the film as “I end up kissing boys the whole film”.
  • Rose’s version of a perfect day is wet and wild, when she can hole up in the Wellington public library for a day to read and write
  • Back when she was still New Zealand based, she paid her bills between acting gigs with odd jobs babysitting and a part-time job importing bananas with Fair Trade.
  • She got into acting because of her older brother, Paul. He was scouted at a bank at the age of 4, and went on to do a TV ad. She then wanted to act as well, and even though their parents were hesitant at first, the two started doing commercials.
  • In March 2010, Rose starred in her first professional theatre production called “The Face”. It was something she had long been hoping to take on.
  • She can’t decide if she likes film work or TV work the most, as there’s good parts about both. Film gives you the luxury of time, while you get so much done on TV in one day. There are different things about each she loves – so it’s really about the people she works with and the character she is playing.
  • She told her parents she had landed a role on “Masters of Sex” over skype – and saw their faces drop in shock. But once they heard more about the project, they were very supportive.
  • When she auditioned for “Once Upon a Time”, she had no idea the character she was auditioning for was Tinkerbell! She thought it was just a fairy.
  • She would love to guest star in a comedy show next – after hearing about Jennifer’s fun experience on “How I met Your Mother” when they were filming “Once Upon a Time” season 3.
  • Her “Brightest Star” co-star Chris Lowell is a close friend with the guys behind the YouTube Comedy Account BriTANick. He introduced her to them, and she joined them for a short film called “The Dinner Party” when they were visiting Los Angeles.
  • Rose is a big foodie, so it’s no surprise that her favorite scene from “Brighest Star” was the mac and cheese scene!
  • She says that when people find out she’s from New Zealand, 9 out of 10 times they’ll ask her about Lord of the Rings. The other time they’ll ask about Flight of the Conchords.
  • Speaking of Flight of the Conchords – Rose is a big fan, and worked with Jermaine on the film Predicament. They’ve been great friends since.
  • She mostly acts with a kiwi accent or US accent – but she’s great at British accent as well! When asked which of her British or American accents are the better, she said they’re probably on par.
